The Estate Roadmap
Would you handle my estate? You will probably answer with a quick yes if your parents or a close friend asks you to be the executor or trustee of their estate, but this could be a time consuming job for 6 months or more. One way to make the job easier is to request a “roadmap for the estate”. While the will defines who will be inheriting assets, the roadmap will catalog the assets, accounts, debts, benefits, insurance policies including telephone numbers and accounts. The roadmap is not a legal document, but it will make the process of handling an estate easier. Include where key documents, such as titles and deeds are held.
